The 84th Annual Academy Award nominations were announced yesterday. Martin Scorsese’s "Hugo" led the field with 11 nods, including one for Best Picture. Also nominated in the top picture category are "War Horse," "The Artist," "Moneyball," "The Descendants," "The Tree of Life," "Midnight in Paris," "The Help" and "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close." "The Artist" earned 10 nominations, while "Moneyball" and "War Horse" each picked up six. "The Descendants" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" both garnered five, and "The Help" secured four. The Oscars awards ceremony is to be held February 26th, at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. It will be televised live on ABC. Nominees include:

Best Picture: "The Artist," "The Descendants," "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close," "The Help," "Hugo," "Midnight in Paris," "Moneyball," "The Tree of Life" and "War Horse."

Actor: Demian Bichir – "A Better Life," George Clooney – "The Descendants,” Jean Dujardin – "The Artist," Gary Oldman – "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and Brad Pitt – "Moneyball."

Actress: Glenn Close – "Albert Nobbs," Viola Davis – "The Help," Rooney Mara – "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," Meryl Streep – "The Iron Lady" and Michelle Williams – "My Week With Marilyn."

Supporting Actor: Kenneth Branagh – "My Week With Marilyn," Jonah Hill – "Moneyball," Nick Nolte – "Warrior," Christopher Plummer – "Beginners" and Max von Sydow – "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close."

Supporting Actress: Berenice Bejo – "The Artist," Jessica Chastain – "The Help," Melissa McCarthy – "Bridesmaids," Janet McTeer – "Albert Nobbs" and Octavia Spencer – "The Help."

Directing: Michel Hazanavicius – "The Artist," Alexander Payne – "The Descendants," Martin Scorsese – "Hugo," Woody Allen – "Midnight in Paris" and Terrence Malick – "The Tree of Life."

Foreign Language Film: "Bullhead" – Belgium, "Footnote" – Israel, "In Darkness" – Poland, "Monsieur Lazhar" – Canada and "A Separation" – Iran.

Animated Feature Film: "A Cat in Paris," "Chico & Rita,” "Kung Fu Panda 2," "Puss in Boots" and "Rango."
