Taylor’s Hals Painting Sells For $2 Million At Auction
A Frans Hals masterpiece which once hung in Elizabeth Taylor’s living room has sold at auction for $2 million. The Portrait of a Man original, which was painted in the early 1630s, went to a phone bidder during a Christie’s sale on Wednesday. Taylor’s father acquired the painting and gave it to his daughter as a gift in the 1950s. The late actress’ extensive art collection is set to go under the hammer in London next month. A total of 38 works are being sold at Christie’s auction house beginning on February 7th. Pieces include a Vincent van Gogh autumn landscape, estimated to be worth between $7.6 million to $11 million, an Edgar Degas self-portrait and creations by Camille Pissarro and Auguste Renoir.
