Sony Loses ‘American Idol’ Music Rights

“American Idol” creator Simon Fuller and 19 Entertainment have signed a deal with Universal Music Group to partner and distribute albums for the show’s artists, ending its relationship with long-time partner Sony. Since the show’s 2001 inception, “American Idol” has sold more music than any other TV show and has moved more than 100 million units in North America and more than 120 million songs on iTunes.
