Bernie Mac’s widow is suing the comedian’s longtime doctor. Rhonda McCullough has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Chicago against dermatologist Rene M. Earles, claiming Earles didn’t pick up on signs that Mac was suffering respiratory failure and kept him at the clinic for several hours rather than calling an ambulance. Bernie died on August 9, 2008, at age 50. Earles says he treated the comedian on the day he died, and that Mac appeared weak, with a low-grade fever and a rash. Earles says when Mac told him another doctor had given him an injection for a cold he called that doctor and was told Mac had double pneumonia. Earles says he told Mac to go to the hospital right away, and the comedian was taken to one in a chauffeur-driven vehicle.
