Rip Torn Denied Probation In Connecticut Bank Break-In

Rip Torn will have to make another appearance in court after a judge refused to let him avoid charges of breaking into a bank while drunk and carrying a loaded gun. The decision means the actor faces a mandatory minimum of one year in jail if convicted of carrying a pistol without a permit, unless he makes a plea deal for a lighter sentence or a mental health evaluation allows him to enter state-monitored treatment. Torn’s lawyer asked a judge in Connecticut to put the charges on hold in return for Torn being placed on probation and entering an accelerated rehabilitation program for first-time, nonviolent offenses. It would have cleared Torn’s record after he completed probation. But the judge said the charges against Torn were too serious. Torn will appear in court again on September 15th.

Maurice Brighthaupt said he saw Stern holding Smith’s head and giving her pills when she was too weak to take them on her own. Defense attorneys attempted to weaken Brighthaupt’s credibility yesterday by questioning him about schemes to profit from his association with Smith. Brighthaupt admitted signing contracts with “Access Hollywood” to provide pictures and interviews after Smith died in 2007 from a drug overdose. He said Smith had given him a camera memory card with more than 100 photographs. Among the pictures he provided were images of the casket and hearse that carried the body of her son, Daniel, after his death. The only location that drew more people was Washington, D.C. for Season 4, when 22,000 showed up. Lowering the age from 16 to 15 years old could be one of the reasons so many are auditioning. Security Raised At Naomi Campbell Trial Appearance

War crimes judges on Tuesday ordered special security measures for supermodel Naomi Campbell when she testifies at the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor, barring photographers from snapping her as she enters and leaves the courtroom. The judges say Campbell’s fears for her safety and privacy are legitimate because of her high profile and the intense media surrounding her. The Special Court for Sierra Leone instructed authorities to ensure that no one photograph, videotape or even sketch Campbell in or around the courtroom. Her testimony, however, will be recorded by courtroom cameras. She is due to appear Thursday, but judges have not yet decided on a motion submitted last week by Taylor’s lawyers to delay her appearance. Campbell was summoned to testify about whether she received diamonds from Taylor after a star-studded dinner in South Africa in 1997. Taylor is accused of trading in “blood diamonds” in exchange for helping rebel factions during the 11-year civil war in Sierra Leone.
