Monday night at the White House, Nathan Lane hosted a special evening of Broadway performances for President Obama and the White House staff. Lane joked that theatergoing hasn’t been popular for presidents since Abraham Lincoln. He also pointed out that the Obamas do enjoy a night at the show. Before the performances, the president praised Broadway music as a “truly American art form.” He said whether or not people like to admit it, everyone has the lyrics of a few Broadway shows stuck in their head. Some of the Broadway stars who performed were Idina Menzel, Elaine Stritch, the cast of “Hairspray” and others. The event was taped and will air October 20th on PBS.
