Image Awards
“The Help” continues to rack up more awards. With less than a week to go before the Oscars, Viola Davis wins Best Actress honors at the NAACP Image Awards. Co-star Octavia Spencer took the prize for Supporting Actress, while the film wins for Outstanding Motion Picture. “Star Wars” creator George Lucas was honored for his lifetime of work with the Vanguard Award. The ceremony Friday at the Shrine Auditorium, which honored diversity in the arts, was punctuated by moving tributes to Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, the Black Stuntmen’s Association and George Lucas and the Tuskegee Airmen. Gospel singer Kirk Franklin closed the program with a version of Houston’s “The Greatest Love of All.”
