Kim Basinger will narrate a Smithsonian Channel documentary on the rare blue Hope Diamond, thought to be the world’s most valuable gem. The special marks the 50th anniversary of the diamond’s donation to the National Museum of Natural History by Harry Winston, its last private owner. “Mystery of the Hope Diamond” premieres November 21st. The diamond was discovered in India in the 17th century. Its owners have included King Louis XIV of France and King George IV of England. For many years, the 45-carat diamond was considered cursed, and it glows a fiery red when placed under an ultraviolet light.
