“American Idol” is suing over royalties for ring tones and downloads. The American Federation of Musicians filed the suit on behalf of the house band that provides the music for the competition. The union says the band should get a cut of the revenues the producers receive from audio files sold online. They claim the producers did not get permission from the musicians to make the sales, which violates their contract. The suit seeks $500,000 in damages and a contribution to the pension fund.
