Five early 20th century paintings collectively valued at more than $600 million were stolen from the Paris Museum of Modern Art early Thursday. The works were Picasso’s “Dove with Green Peas,” Henri Matisse’s “Pastoral,” Georges Braque’s “Olive Tree Near Estaque,” Amedeo Modigliani’s “Lady with Fan” and Fernand Leger’s “Still Life with Chandelier.” The museum was closed to visitors as police investigated the heist, which was described as the biggest in Paris in recent years.
