More ‘Idol’ Controversy

American Idol” semifinalist Todrick Hall is in hot water with parents who are upset they never received refunds for performance fees they paid in a failed musical production. Hall wrote and directed a musical version of “The Wizard of Oz” when he was 17. Using amateur actors, he put on small productions around town. The Arlington, Texas, native is now 24 and his production of the musical was supposed to go national, with leading roles filled by professional actors. But the production was mysteriously canceled. Some parents had already paid $50 for their children to participate in the musical. The project failed financially and the money wasn’t returned. Todrick, who was not in charge of the business side, said a lack of contributors led to the show folding. Hall is scheduled to perform Wednesday on “Idol” with the top 12 male semifinalists.
