Gervase Duan “G.D.” Spradlin, a former lawyer and oil producer who found a second act as a character actor, playing in movies like “Apocalypse Now” and “The Godfather: Part II,” has died. He was 90. Spradlin died of natural causes Sunday at his San Luis Obispo ranch in California. Spradlin was a late bloomer, not getting into acting until he was in his 40s. He spent the early part of his life serving in the Army in China during World War II, working as an attorney and striking it rich as an independent oil producer.
