Randy Quaid’s Extradition To Santa Barbara Denied

A request by the Santa Barbara County, California, district attorney’s office to extradite Randy Quaid and his wife from Canada has been denied. The DA’s office wants them to face charges of felony vandalism. The U.S. Department of Justice denied the request because extradition from Canada requires a lot of time and effort on the part of the government and generally is only for more serious offenses. Randy and Evi Quaid are accused of causing more than $5,000 damage to the guest house of a home they once owned. The Quaids were arrested in Vancouver last October and jailed under the Canadian Immigration Act. They applied for refugee status, saying they were seeking asylum from so-called “star whackers” targeting Hollywood celebrities. Evi, whose father was Canadian, was later granted citizenship and she is sponsoring her husband.
